I became a fan of Weakened Friends straight off of the first listen of their iconic hit “Blue Again” back in 2019 in preparation of Musikfest that summer. This many years later, and now hosting a podcast, the opportunity came up to be able to interview Sonia Sturino and Annie Hoffman and I jumped at the opportunity.
They’ve just released brand new music, and it is there best stuff yet. The album is called Feels Like Hell, and comes out of a long wait – not quite “writer’s block”, more like waiting for the right time to harness the songwriting creativity.
We get in to all the things – their early journeys to music, how the found each other, finding balance between their approaches that can be at odds, and navigating where people are allowed to go on stage.
Band Bio
The story of Weakened Friends unfolds a bit like Fleetwood Mac’s—minus the cocaine, plus a dose of multivitamins. Just over a decade ago, vocalist Sonia Sturino invited bassist Annie Hoffman to start a new band. Now, ten years later, they’re three albums deep into the band that would come to define their lives—and Sonia and Annie are married.
Grounded in love, Weakened Friends make music to soundtrack the movie of your life—whether screaming along in the car with friends, serenading your cat, falling in love, getting married, or starting a band.
