We have such a wonderful treat for everyone this week – we are honored to bring you a fantastic chat with the world renowned cuatrista Fabiola Méndez!
This brilliant musician picked up the cuatro (a classic folk guitar of Puerto Rico) at 6 years old and hasn’t put it down since. She learned to play it from the masters of her country and then it earned her a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she was the first to graduate with the cuatro as her principle instrument.
We’ll spend time learning about her musical and personal journey, but also about the history of the cuatro, and also the struggle of Puerto Rico as a colonized land for its entire history. Fabi is passionate about raising awareness about her beloved homeland, and also the rich heritage is has, and the strong female artists that are from there.
And Fabiola will perform live! You won’t believe that she started out as an instrumentalist when you hear her gorgeous vocals.
And a huge thank you to guest co-host for this episode – Maraleen Shields!
